Jean Lafitte was a pirate who worked off of the coast of New Orleans. During the War of 1812, Lafitte turned privateer and with his men, sided with the United States. Lafitte’s fleet was present at the Battle of New Orleans providing aid to General Andrew Jackson in the way of ammunition, weapons, and supplies.
