Lafitte offers to help the United States after being approached by the British in exchange for pardons for his men. After the war, President Madison pardons the Baratarians led by Lafitte. General Andrew Jackson first opposed Lafitte’s involvement in the war but later relented when Lafitte could provide information and ammunition. The whereabouts of Lafitte after 1820 when he was forced by the U.S. Navy to stop his smuggling operations off the coast of Texas.
